Columbia County residents can take advantage of a new feature added to the county's Development Services Web site that offers updates on future developments in the community.
//
Information regarding new developments will be put online after building plans have been received and approved by county officials.
"I don't want to speculate on something coming in and it's not," Development Services Director Richard Harmon said. "If we have plans in-house and we're receiving them, then we're going to put it on there."
Currently, renderings of the following developments are listed on the division's Web site: McDonald's at Riverwood Town Center; Stanton Optical; 3899 Washington Road; CVS at the Village at Hereford Farm Road; and Golden Corral on Bobby Jones Expressway.
The new service was added online in an effort to keep citizens informed and updated on the happenings of their community, Harmon said.
He said his office typically begins receiving inquiries from the public when land is cleared for a development.
"Personally, I think a lot of people want to know what's going to happen in the community that they live in," Harmon said. "We just felt like it would be a better way to get the information to the public.
Harmon noted that planning commission agendas and documents regarding rezonings and other planning information already can be accessed online. This is just one more way to keep residents informed, he said.
A Facebook page with information about the division also has been set up. The group, which is called Columbia County Development Services, currently has 108 fans.
"We want more people on there," Harmon said. "There, they can comment. That's the good thing."
