AP Scholars

Ninety-five students at Lakeside High School earned the designation of Advanced Placement Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their achievements on the 2009 college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams.
Afoma Umeano qualified for the National AP Scholar Award. Students qualify by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5- point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Thirty-two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction. Students qualify by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Students who qualified are Arya Aghdasi, Ellen Bledsoe, Andrew Byrd, Kim-Tri Cao, Dexter Chan, Allison Cheng, James Cheng, Diane Choi, Savannah Crews, Mikhil Desai, Robert Dong, Zachary Dromsky, Pramodh Ganapathy, Saba Gill, Carolyn Granade, Kiasheng Guo, Benjamin Hackney, Hannah Hall, Liana Howard, Muhan Hu, Charles Johnson, James Meixiong, Devi Morrison, Santosh Patel, Kristen Petersen, Kerri Phillips, William Reeve, Scott Sheppard, Jennifer Stanley, Karan Suraj, Afoma Umeano and Roger Zhong.

Students qualify by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Nursing conference
Kevin Lillis, of Evans, a senior nursing major at Harding University in Searcy, Ark., was one of the 81 members of the Harding Nursing Student Association to attend the Arkansas Nursing Students' Association annual conference Oct. 29-30 in Little Rock. Lillis won the state office of legislative chairman for the association's board of directors.
Excelsior College graduates
The following local students have graduated from Excelsior College: James Michael Freisberg , from Martinez, has earned an associate degree in science; and Jason Matthew Woodward , from Grovetown, has earned a bachelor of science.
Virginia Tech grad school admission
Phillip M. Dominy , of Evans, has been admitted to the graduate school at Virginia Tech. Dominy is pursuing a master of science degree in mathematics from the College of Science.
VSU ambassador
Valdosta State University selected Ansley Thompson, of Evans, for the VSU Ambassadors, a group that will assist the president with outreach activities, including graduation and alumni functions. Thompson is a sophomore biology major with a 4.0 GPA.
