A framed and signed Marc Chagall lithograph valued at $4,000 is the big prize awaiting art lovers at the Augusta Jewish Community Center's first ever art auction and wine tasting Saturday.
Chagall was a Russian-born French painter and designer who lived from 1887 until 1985. He has been called one of the most successful artists of the 20th century.
AJCC Executive Director Leah Ronen said the $25 per person admission cost includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine tasting and a raffle ticket for the Chagall lithograph. Door prizes, including fine jewelry and theater tickets, will be awarded hourly and guests will have the opportunity to get additional raffle tickets.
"For every $100 they spend, they will get another raffle ticket," said Ronen.
Guests are asked to call to reserve a spot, although tickets can be purchased at the door.
Among the artists whose works will be displayed and auctioned are Buckels, Neiman, Shvaiko, Chagall, Dali, Patricia, Wooster, Scott, Wyeth, Ebgi, Adams and Grant. Animation and Judaica art also will be auctioned. Prices of the pieces will range from $35 to several thousand dollars.
"What attracted us to the idea is it included a wine tasting," said Ronen. "We're very excited about it. I like the idea of combing the art auction and the wine tasting."
Azalea Fine Art will conduct the auction. Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express credit cards will be accepted.
Guests can preview the art beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a wine tasting at 7 p.m. and the auction at 7:30 p.m. For information about the art auction and wine tasting, call the Augusta Jewish Community Center at (706) 228-3636.
