College internship

Erica Eiring, of Evans, received The Hubert Scholars Program for public service internship. Eiring, a member of the class of 2010 at Agnes Scott College, is the daughter of Cynthia and James Eiring.

GSU President's List

The following students were named to the summer President's List at Georgia Southern University: Casey M. Brush, of Appling, a junior majoring in justice studies, and Ian E. Puczkowski, of Martinez, a senior majoring in political science.

Scholarship

The Penn State Club of Aiken-Augusta has awarded its annual scholarship to Priyanka Kuverji . This year's scholarship was in excess of $3,900. Kuverji, of Martinez, is a senior biology major at Penn State's main campus at University Park, Penn. The scholarship is available to eligible Penn State students who live in the Central Savannah River Area.

Excelsior graduates

The following local students have graduated from Excelsior College: Immanuel Daniel , a resident of Evans, has earned a bachelor of arts, and Brian Jerome O'Callaghan and Darryl Scott Furby , both of Grovetown, earned bachelor of science degrees.

Davidson award

Rachel R. Marks , the daughter of Dr. Stuart and Susan Marks of Evans, received the Sandy Black Memorial Award in premedical studies. Marks, a studio art major, is a member of the Alph Epsilon Delta premedical honor society, and serves as a pharmacy technician at the Free Clinic of Our Towns and a nursing assistant at the Concord Free Clinic.

Valdosta State summer graduates

The following Columbia County students have received their degrees from Valdosta State University: Shaun Alexander Brooks, master of business administration; Angela Marie Griffin, education specialist; Dena Paige Vassey, master of library and information science.

Baylor degree

Colleen Hergott, of Martinez, received a degree in physical therapy from Baylor University in August.

Tennessee degree

Tanika Martin, of Appling, has received a master of science in nursing: nurse anesthesia at the summer commencement exercises at the University of Tennessee.

Scholarship semifinalists

The following local high school juniors requested consideration in the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. These semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants from Columbia County: Charles Thomas, Augusta Preparatory Day School, Theresa S. Bailey, Lakeside High School, and Zidisha M. Dambuza, Harlem High School.

Student receives $1,000 scholarship

Andrea Puccini , of Martinez, a member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) Georgia Institute of Technology chapter, was awarded the Merit Award scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship helps new NSCS members with the cost of college.

Georgia Tech Dean's List

Amira Mouna, Daniel Riley and David Schwartz , all from Evans, have been named to the spring semester Dean's List at Georgia Institute of Technology.

London School of Economics degree

Andrew Fisher , of Martinez, has received a masters degree in finance and economics from the London School of Economics. He is a 2008 graduate of Wake Forest University and a 2004 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools.

Statewide Honor Chorus member

Jenna Hutcheson has been selected to be a member of the sixth grade Statewide Honor Chorus to be held Feb. 5 and 6 in Morrow, Ga.

Jenna, who attends Grovetown Middle School, is the daughter of Libby and Paul Hutcheson and the granddaughter of Joann Hutcheson, Jane and Jimmy Powell and Charlotte and Larry Hinman.
