Time Capsule

From Staff

As reported 53 years ago in the pages of The Columbia News, Thursday, Nov. 8, 1956:

Basketball begins

Jimmy McDaniel has been elected captain of the boys' basketball team at Harlem for this season. Jimmy is the only returning player from last year's first string, since Robert Crawford moved to Evans. Carolyn Knox has been re-elected as captain of the girls' team. Carolyn is a transfer from Leah, where she played first string guard last year.

New suits and warm-ups have been ordered for both Harlem teams this year, and the gym is being sanded and a clear finish put on it.

The Harlem High teams will open the home season against the Evans Black Knights Nov. 9, 1956. It will be the second game for Evans, who open their season in Gibson.

It is the season opener for Harlem, and a large crowd is anticipated to fill the recently renovated Evans gymnasium.
