Harlem jail opens
At a brief dedication ceremony, Harlem Police Chief David Wasp received the keys to the new Harlem City Jail from Mayor James Lewis. The $27,000 construction project opened to public inspection recently.
"I feel this is another step toward progress in Harlem," Lewis said.
The former police office at City Hall will be converted into the city clerk's office. City officials plan to hire a full-time jailer in the future to help handle emergency fire calls.
