First Baptist Church of Evans needs a new pastor.
//
The Rev. Steve Spencer, who served at the church for 10 years, recently resigned.
"He decided it was time to step down and move on with his journey of pastoring," said Sandy Patridge, the chairwoman of the church's personnel committee. "It was his decision."
Former First Baptist of Augusta minister Tim Owings is serving as the Evans church's interim pastor until a permanent replacement is found, said Philip Hedgecoth, the minister of music and education at the Evans church.
Owings, a financial adviser, is not a candidate to replace Spencer, Hedgecoth said.
Because of Owings' assistance at First Baptist of Evans, the church intends to take its time in seeking a new preacher, Patridge said.
"Steve just resigned in October, so we really haven't started the process of finding a new pastor at this time," she said.
"We're going to organize a committee at the first of the year."
