I wanted to write this letter to express my outrage at the Columbia County schools for being open this Veterans Day.
All schools and government offices should be closed every year on Nov. 11 to honor and thank veterans for their service to our country. What is this teaching our younger generation? Who voted out Veterans Day closings for Columbia County Schools?
Columbia County residents, show your outrage by not sending your children to school this Veterans Day. My daughter attends school in Richmond County, and they have closed schools for Veterans Day. If they did not close, I would refuse to send my child to school out of respect for the Veterans.
Veterans Day is to thank veterans for their dedicated and loyal service. Nov. 11 each year is the day that we let veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made for us to keep our country free.
To the Evans family of Army Staff Sgt. Justin DeCrow, recently killed in the tragedy at Fort Hood, to his 13-year old daughter left behind to bear the sorrow, and to all military families who feel deeply the sacrifices, we honor you. To my father, who served two tours in Vietnam and is now 77 years old; to my brother, who served in both the Gulf and Iraq wars; and to all veterans, we respect, honor and thank you.
