No coin flip is expected to be necessary to decide the Region 3-AAAA football champion. Lakeside just has to beat lowly Josey.
Lakeside rolled over Butler, 38-0, on homecoming last week and Hephzibah lost its second region game.
With that, the Panthers would earn the region title with a victory over Josey on Friday. Lakeside owns the tiebreaker over Evans, having shut out the Knights to open the season, and would have a top seed and home playoff game.
Lakeside had no trouble putting itself in position Friday. The Panthers scored on three plays of more than 40 yards and managed 27 first downs, almost double the Bulldogs' total.
Quarterback Ben Wilson completed seven of 10 passes for 143 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown strike to senior Justin Pitock to end the first quarter. Lakeside's Ricky McMurtrey rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Hammond 39, Augusta Christian 7
Hammond jumped on Augusta Christian early, scoring 20 points in the first quarter en route to the victory.
Augusta Christian avoided the shutout when Raymond Hoefs scored on a 5-yard run with 1:09 left in the game.
Lions quarterback Tyler Roberson hit 10 of 14 passes for 104 yards and one interception.
Augusta Christian (5-5, 1-3 in SCISA Region 1-AAA) opens the playoffs on the road Friday.
Harlem 20, Josey 7
Harlem continued its late-season push, beating Josey for its third victory in four games.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-6 and 3-5 in Region 3-AAAA.
Stephenson 38, Greenbrier 13
Greenbrier fell to 2-7 with a loss at Class AAAAA power Stephenson. Wolfpack junior DJ Tyson returned a kickoff for a touchdown and caught a pass for another score.
