Pet adoption showcase
These pets are available for adoption from Columbia County Animal Care and Control. For information, call (706) 541-4077 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the links to Animal Care and Control. Adult animals cost $25 to adopt and the adoption fee for puppies and kittens is $20. All animals must be spayed or neutered. Visitors must wear closed-in shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Class of the competition
The Evans High School competition band won first place against 12 other bands at the Bands Across the Savannah marching competition in North Augusta on Oct. 3. They also brought home first place in their division for color guard, drum majors, horns and drum line. Reid Hall was voted best band director. Only four entries did not get at least seven correct, including one entry that missed Friday's noon deadline.
