When responding to Republican criticism of the 1,588-page, $850 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Barack Obama said, "Let's not make the perfect the enemy of the essential," and, he warned that failure to act quickly "will turn crisis into a catastrophe and guarantee a longer recession."
All of this was said by someone who never ran a business, a city or a lemonade stand. He went on to proclaim that critics "echo the very same failed economic theories that led us into this crisis in the first place, the notion that tax cuts alone will solve all our problems." To ice the cake, he declared, "I reject those theories, and so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change." The new president said that by the end of summer, 600,000 new jobs would be created. Survey says?
At September's end, America lost close to 4 million jobs, and is flirting with 10 percent unemployment (a figure that Obama said would be 8 percent if his bill did not pass). In the words of Maxwell Smart, "Missed it by that much."
However, the media will continue to cover for Obama and the Democratic Party regardless of truth, facts and all other trivial tidbits. You wanted "change"? Well, we're all getting it.
To insult our intelligence and common sense yet again, the Democrats, led by non-payer of taxes Charles Rangel, chairman of the House's Ways and Means Committee, want Stimulus: The Sequel. Rangel said, "We have to do something for the unemployed, politically and economically." Well, shucks, Chuck, what was the brouhaha about the stimulus bill creating all of these jobs? Readers, you remember, right? The Democrats forecasting depression and massive unemployment if this bill failed? Now these very same wise souls want to do it again?
Respectfully to the Democrats and press corps, in the words of Oleg Kiselev, "And it's my opinion, and that's only my opinion, you are a lunatic. Just because there are a few hundred other people sharing your lunacy with you does not make you any saner."
