Christian Giles loved children, as evidenced by her decision to enter the teaching profession. It is in that child-loving spirit that an Evans business will honor her memory.

Southern Landscaping and Lawncare, 4759 Washington Road, will play host to the Kids Spook-tacular Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. All proceeds will go to the Christian Giles Scholarship Fund.

Giles, 24, died July 16, 2008, after being struck by a vehicle while walking with her husband and dogs on Mullikin Road in Evans.

She was a kindergarten teacher at John Milledge Elementary School in Augusta.

"The proceeds from our carnival will go to underprivileged children in the CSRA and schools to purchase supplies and materials," organizer Ashley Tuten said. "We are daring the CSRA to raise over $2,000."

Children arriving in costume will be able to participate for 50 cents per attraction. Children not in costume will pay $1.

There will be more than 15 attractions, including a haystack maze, a witch toss, a ghost walk, face painting and inflatables.

"It's going to be a big, fun day and an opportunity to come out, have some fun and help a worthwhile cause," Tuten said. "We really want the community to support this event."
