Greenbrier looks to bounce back after loss last week

Last Week: 4-1

//

Year to Date: 21-4

Last week I went 4-1 and was very close on most of the actual scores.

Evans vs. Butler

Predicted Score: 41-6

Actual Score 45-7

Greenbrier vs. Union Grove

Predicted Score: 44-10

Actual Score: 43-6

Lakeside at Hephzibah

Predicted Score: Lakeside to win 19-17

Actual Score: Hephzibah won 14-13 in overtime

And the Augusta Christian, Grovetown, and Harlem games were not too far off, either.

This Week:

Evans (4-1) at Westside (3-2)

Last season: Evans won 35-10.

All-time: Westside leads the series 20-13-1.

Before Lakeside and Greenbrier opened their doors, Westside was the Knights' biggest rival. The two teams squared off in some wars back in the late 1980s.

While Westside has a 20-13-1 lead all-time, Evans is up 10-5 since 1986.

Evans also boasts a 22-3 mark in regular-season games since 2007. This year, Westside's 3-2 mark is a little misleading. The Patriots have wins over Cross Creek, Aquinas, and Josey. In two games versus ARC and Hephzibah, they have been outscored 65-8.

Evans 38, Westside 10

Greenbrier (2-3) at Luella (1-4)

Last season: Luella won their first meeting 42-7.

Luella is down from a year ago, and off to a rough start. The Wolfpack are coming off a thumping by a solid Union Grove team. This likely will be a close game. The winner will be the team that protects the football and executes on offense.

Luella 20, Greenbrier 14

Grovetown (5-2) at Locust Grove (3-2)

This is the first meeting between the two first-year schools.

Locust Grove, like Grovetown, has picked up a few wins in its first year. However, the competition level is higher for the Warriors. Grovetown is on the road and the game will be tougher than last week's, but the Warriors should be able to get win No. 6.

Seth Hill revved his engine last week. The talented running back ran for a season-high 223 yards and five touchdowns on just 22 carries. If I were Locust Grove, I would make Xavier Crain beat me through the air. However, the last few games he has been effective and efficient in the passing game.

Grovetown 32, Locust Grove 20

Lakeside (4-1) at ARC (4-1)

Last season: ARC won 30-0.

All-time: 5-5

The Panthers lost a heartbreaker last week to Hephzibah in overtime. The Panthers need to forget that game and come ready to play against a solid ARC squad. The Musketeers will have the biggest offensive line the vaunted Panther defense has seen all season, and they also have a terrific athlete under center in Mar-Quan Medlock. If the Panthers can put last week past them they can win in this one.

Lakeside 17, ARC 13

Augusta Christian (3-3) at Wilson Hall

The Lions have struggled of late. They will play yet another ranked team this week. Wilson Hall was the AAA state runner-up a year ago.

The young Lions may face another tough week, but the future is extremely bright with all the young talent that suits up for coach Keith Walton.

Wilson Hall 28, Augusta Christian 24

Harlem (0-5) at Cross Creek (2-3)

Last season: Harlem won 27-21.

All-time: Harlem leads 5-2.

The Bulldogs were blanked last week 34-0 by ARC and will have a fight on their hands to stay out of the Region 3-AAAA basement. With several key players from last season now suiting up for Grovetown, Harlem simply does not have enough firepower to compete this season.

Cross Creek 26, Harlem 14
