Eckenroth honored
John Eckenroth, principal of Grovetown Elementary School, was named Citizen of the Year by Columbia County Youth Services at a special program at Grovetown Elementary School.
Brian Stutts, representing Columbia County Youth Services, made the presentation. "This award is presented to an individual whose efforts and interests in young people go beyond what is normally required on a day-to-day basis," Stutts said. "John Eckenroth is a responsible member of the community and he has earned the respect of the students, staff and citizens of Columbia County."
Fishman crowned
The Columbia County Fair Beauty Pageant was held Saturday night at the new Evans High School. The pageant is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Martinez Merchants Association.
Jennifer Fishman was crowned the new queen. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Phillip and Peggy Fishman of Martinez. Jennifer is a senior at Evans High School.
First runner-up was Angie Keen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burl Keen of Evans.
