An event sponsored by Doctors Hospital next weekend will allow men to check out cars and their health.

The inaugural "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines" event will feature a free car show and men's health exposition.

"They can enjoy the cars, get a health screening while they're there and still have time to enjoy the (Georgia vs. Arizona State) game later on that day," said Anne Cordeiro, community relations manager at Doctors Hospital.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Evans Town Center Park, located behind the Evans Kroger.

Cordeiro said she expects at least 50 cars to be on display at the 19-acre field. Among those are antique vehicles from GaSCar, a group of car enthusiasts from Georgia and South Carolina, as well as Model A Fords from the group, Shade Tree "A's".

There is no fee to enter a car. An entry form can be found at www.livingwellaugusta.com. The deadline to enter is Wednesday.

The Gerald Jones Subaru dealership in Augusta also will showcase a 2009 Subaru STI Turbo, which was featured in Fast and Furious .

At the event, men can get health screenings, including a height, weight and body fat screening; a blood pressure test; a prostate specific antigen, or PSA, test; and a total-cholesterol test, among others.

Cordeiro said centering a health check-up for men around cars seemed like a "perfect combination."

Inflatable activities will be set up for children, and food from Shane's Rib Shack and Stonecrest Steakhouse can be purchased.

The hospital recently held its 10th annual CareFair in Augusta, which is devoted to women, Cordeiro said.

"Men's health is just as important," she said. "Unfortunately, guys aren't as proactive sometimes about going to the doctor, so we decided to create an event that would help them in doing that."
