Qualifying for the Nov. 10 election concluded Friday with area businessman Sonny McDowell signing up along with city council members Bruce Stoddard and Rosa Lee Owens for two seats.

The top two vote-getters in the election earn the city council spots.

Stoddard was last elected to city council in 2005 and is seeking his third term.

Owens was unopposed when she won her seat in 2007 to fill the unexpired term of George James when he resigned to run for mayor.

McDowell ran for city council in a previous election.

To qualify, candidates had to submit a written application and pay a $108 application fee.

City council members serve four-year terms.

Though the qualifying period for candidates has passed, voter registration will continue until 5 p.m. Oct. 5.

Voters can register at Grovetown City Hall, 103 Old Wrightsboro Road, or at the Columbia County Board of Elections office, 500 Faircloth Drive, Evans.
