All Americans will suffer from liberal initiatives on environment

S.G. Von Schweinitz

Editor:

The liberals' fairy tail of "no increase in taxes under $250,000 in income" will bite all of us, especially those of us making less than $250,000 per year.

"Cap and Trade" is designed to force the consumer into paying the ever-increasing cost of living for all products using energy and producing CO2 emissions. This increased cost will lower the people's consumption and lower the American standard of living across the board.

Our socialist government refuses to tap our own resources of oil and gas, which would not only reduce our dependence on foreign oil dictators but would also bridge the gap for the next 25 years until we accomplish an alternate-fueled economy. So when $4 or $5 per gallon gas is back and the price of other products from food to electricity rises steeply, ask your Democrat friends not to complain because they voted for it through their congressional buddies.

Global warming and cooling has happened throughout the centuries, but this Al Gore and United Nations-sponsored extremism is part of the conspiracy to lower us to Third World levels.

However, we need to be aware that our high degree of "consumerism" not only irks the rest of the world, but there are many measures in conservation that we should take for our own environment's protection. Many of our cars could be powered by small diesel engines giving 45 miles per gallon with plenty of pep. Diesel fuel is cheaper to produce than gasoline, though you wouldn't know it at the gas pump. Making ethanol from corn, government subsidized, is a high degree of stupidity.
