Evil people 'very happy' about laws that take guns from citizens

After reading "It's shocking that firearms are allowed where president speaks," (letter, Sept. 2) by Nancy Moore, I almost passed out in disbelief.

She stated, "They proclaimed it was within their Second Amendment rights to carry arms, and U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga., staunchly defended them." I would like to tell Rep. Gingrey thank you for standing up for our Second Amendment rights.

To have the audacity to bring up Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bombings and our Second Amendment rights in the same letter is crazy. Timothy McVeigh's heinous crime in Oklahoma City was carried out using a bomb that consisted of about 5,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate (an agricultural fertilizer) and nitro methane (a motor-racing fuel).

Laws disarming guaranteed victims make evil people very happy. Here are just a few gun-free zones:

- Columbine High School: Twelve schoolmates and a teacher murdered, 24 others wounded.

- Pearl (Miss.) High School: Two students murdered and seven injured.

- Luby's Cafeteria: Twenty-three people murdered, 20 wounded.

- The Amish school in Pennsylvania:Five girls murdered (aged 6-13).

- Virginia Tech University: Thirty-two people murdered, many others wounded.

Yet, there are still thousands following the Brady campaign, insisting on continuing the gun-free zone. Instead of worrying about what law-abiding citizens are doing guaranteed under the Constitution of the United States, demand an upgrade of citizens' abilities to defend themselves. Be certain that your children's school has a better plan than Virginia Tech or Columbine.

Eliminate the insanity of "gun-free zones." There will never, ever be gun-free zones. There will only be good-guy-gun-free zones, which is a recipe for disaster.
