Where is all your grass going?
There are a number of reasons why turfgrass can thin out. The first is too much shade. As the amount of shade increases, the grass has less potential to produce the food that it needs to survive, so the grass will thin out. Another reason is disease.

The granddaughter and great-grandson of former Columbia County Sheriff Edward Tankersley died Thursday in what authorities say was a murder-suicide in Appling.
Adoption spotlight
Heartsong Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that relies on donations to continue the rescue effort. Located in Martinez, Heartsong rescues from 10 counties. All animals are current on their vaccinations (age appropriate). All dogs are microchipped.

Milo Frederick Hayes III, 18, of the 100 block of Magnolia Drive in Grovetown, was charged with driving under the influence on April 21, 2009, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Just another little church, thanks to God
Here we sit in the middle of a neighborhood where thousands of people drive by each day. Nothing remarkable. No big steeple. In fact, no steeple at all. Just three buildings. Just another church.
Take common sense for flu
This year probably will go down in history not as the year of the swine flu pandemic, but as the year of swine flu pandemic hysteria. Despite the national media's best efforts, the folks in the business of studying diseases continue to insist that the H1N1 strain of flu is no worse than the garden-variety flu.
Recall that 'respect the president' thing?
Unfortunately, the political views of some in our community seem to have clouded their intelligence. How else to explain the apoplexy at the very notion of the president seeking to (gasp!) speak to school children?

Lions freshman takes QB role
Practice was over for all but two players Wednesday at Augusta Christian. Freshman quarterback Tyler Roberson and senior receiver Evan Wells remained on the field working on comeback routes as coach Keith Walton watched.
Greenbrier edges softball rival
Greenbrier's softball team became a chorus Monday on Evans' softball field. The Wolfpack belted out Happy Birthday , throwing in the names of coach Garrett Black and teammate Marya Blackledge. The girls' gift had been a 3-1 win over rival Evans in extra innings.
Wells will be Jacket in 2 years
Ebony Wells still has two years of high school basketball ahead of her, but she has already made a college choice. The talented 6-foot-3 post player committed to the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech during an unofficial visit to the Tech campus last weekend.
