I was dismayed at Tom Crawford's Aug. 12 column, "Chambliss, Isakson show their priorities," in reference to support for the purchase of seven additional F-22s.

Crawford is entitled to his criticism of Sens. Chambliss' and Isakson's approach to spending. However, bringing attention to the breakdown and spotty maintenance record of this weapon system borders on revealing classified information; "confidential" at least.

My last assignment as executive officer to the Director of Operations and Intelligence for the Pacific Air Forces Command at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, exposed me to information that would be beneficial to intelligence gathering. Every bit of trivial information adds a piece to the puzzle.

Regardless of my support for the F-22 program, Crawford is "off-base."
