Columbia Middle School honors

Columbia Middle School held its honors program on May 12, and Victoria Yrizarry, of Grovetown, was recognized for having the highest cumulative average from 2006-09. In addition, Jalen Saunders, of Martinez, earned the highest eighth-grade yearly average; Victoria Yrizarry earned the second highest; and Clayton Crider, of Martinez, earned the third highest. All three students will enter Evans High School in the fall.

Clemson University President's List

Abigail E. Russell, of Evans, and Chelsea A. Shugars, of Evans, were named to the President's List at Clemson University.

Clemson University Dean's List

Amanda Rodriguez, of Evans, Carmel M. Cheatham Jr., of Martinez, and Joshua Ryan Woodward, of Martinez, were named to the Dean's List at Clemson University.

Washington and Lee Honor Roll

Bena Mujanayi Tshishiku , a junior at Washington and Lee University, has earned Honor Roll status for the winter term at Washington and Lee University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Tshishiku, of Martinez.

Math Olympiad program awards

The fourth- and fifth-grade Horizons pupils from Greenbrier, River Ridge and Riverside elementary schools were among the nearly 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. They participated in a series of five monthly contests of five problems each, from November to March. They prepared with weekly practice sessions.

Horizons teachers Winsor Reynierson, Gin Stephens, and Heather Holley extended what the students learned in math class by teaching them creative strategies for solving unusual and difficult problems. Greenbrier and River Ridge Elementary are in their second year and Riverside Elementary is in their first year of using Math Olympaids as a component of their curriculum.

All of the students were recognized with certificates for their participation. The following students received special awards for their outstanding performance.

- Greenbrier Elementary

Fifth-grade team trophy high scorer : Christopher Link.

Top 50 percent of nation (felt patch) : Christopher Link, Isabel Florentino, Rebecca Forry, Daniel Goolsby, Diane Klement, John Natale, Joe Neely, Allison Perry, Hope Rodgers, Baylie Schott.

Fourth-grade team trophy high scorer : Zach Rutt.

Top 50 percent of nation (felt patch) : Zach Rutt, Maggie Christine, Alyssa DeAngelo.

- River Ridge Elementary

Fifth-grade team trophy high scorer : Cortland Johns.

Top 10 percent of nation (silver pins) : Cortland Johns, Jake Grove, Nancy Park, Kelly Pulliam, Nina Schreihofer.

Top 50 percent of nation (felt patch) : Cortland Johns, Jake Grove, Nancy Park, Kelly Pulliam, Nina Schreihofer, Bryson Kotas, Eldad Saler, Caitlin Cole, Emily Crow, Drew Duffie, Parker Herndon, Lily LeRoy, Courtney Chaffin, States Fort, Bennett Rhoads, Jacob Sheets, Menna Al-Shabrawey, Erin Knowles.

- Riverside Elementary

Fifth-grade team trophy high scorer : Bryce Childs.

College graduate

Daniel Roland Beaudry , of Evans, received a juris doctor/master's of business administration degree from the Wake Forest University Babcock Graduate School of Management in May 2009.
