Give free clinics a seat at reform table
In 2008, Georgia's 100-plus charity clinics cared for more than 175,000 patients. This year, some clinics are seeing as much as a 300 percent increase in patients due to the state's record unemployment rate. Still, many get turned away.
Meeting will tell public about Route 47 project
The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public information session Thursday in Appling concerning plans for widening State Route 47 at the Keg Creek Bridge.
MoStock will send teens off to school
Area churches will send teenagers off to college with a Christian rock and worship festival Saturday in Evans. The second annual MoStock will be held at Mosaic United Methodist Church, 478 Columbia Industrial Blvd., starting at 1 p.m.
Out-of-town builders are attracted to the county
Though activity in the housing market has slowed throughout the country, Columbia County continues to attract the interest of builders, both inside and outside the area.
New Baker Place plans are approved
The Columbia County Planning Commission on Tuesday approved changes for a mixed-use development off Baker Place Road that eliminates apartments, senior housing units and offices.
Girls learn it's fun to be fashionable
Allowing the pink polish on her fingernails to finish drying, Gracie Garigan channeled her inner movie star. The 7-year-old was one of 12 girls between the ages of 7 and 13 who attended Fashion Camp last week at the Augusta Jewish Community Center.

The Dixie Youth All-Stars, Team Georgia, will hold a barbecue lunch fundraiser on Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church on North Belair Road from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A $7 plate includes barbecue pork, hash and rice, potato salad, bread and sweet tea.

The Stallings Island Middle School Beta Club collected 935 pounds of school supplies to help local students and teachers. They also earned money to purchase a bench for the front of the school and a tree to plant in honor of the school's founding.

Kellett's influence gets his players college scholarships
Most people who sell their business to enjoy retirement can be found on the golf course or traveling the world. Bob Kellett is not most people. The former owner of Hometown Sports in Martinez starts each day with a drive from his house in North Augusta to Aiken to have breakfast with his mother.

The GA-SC Bulls Soccer Club will hold a summer camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 17. Camp will be held Sunday through Wednesday at Hammond's Ferry in North Augusta. The North Augusta camp is a Bull's ProXtreme camp featuring professional soccer players.
