The nine-month leadership program is managed by the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce and will begin with a reception Aug. 11 at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

Monthly class days begin with a history of Columbia County, an overnight retreat and team-building/survivor exercises.
Other topics include media, criminal justice, local government, military, health care, arts, tourism, economic development, state government, local industry and regional economic development, and public safety and fire, education, community service.
In addition, a regional forum, led by the University of Georgia Fanning Institute and including other regional leadership classes, will discuss collaborative relationships and community issues.
The charter class will culminate with a community class project and graduation exercise in May .
The chairwoman of the 2010 Leadership Class is Pat Goodwin, the chairwoman of the Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the business manager for external affairs at the Medical College of Georgia.
Barry Barth, the vice president and general manager of Fox television affiliate WFXG and a member of the board of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, is vice chairman .
