Father of the year nominees

Special

Lee Morton Goolsby, nominated by Rebecca Ann Goolsby, 9, Evans

The reason I think my dad should be father of the year is because he plays my favorite games with me. Another reason my dad should be father of the year is because he can put my hair in a bun for dance class. The last reason my dad should be father of the year is he likes to take us camping so we can hike, play in the stream, and have fun together. So please pick my dad to be father of the year! PLEASE!

P.S. He is the only dad that I know that can braid hair as good as he can!

Patrick Shay, nominated by Christy Shay, 14, Evans

My dad's name is Patrick Shay. He is a really great dad to me! I think he should get the title of Columbia County father of the year for a couple of reasons. One reason is that he tries his best to do anything I want to do and when I want to do it. He works really hard to provide for us. He is sweet to me and very trustworthy father! I love him with all my heart and couldn't have gotten a better father than him! I wouldn't trade him in for anything! I think he should be the father of the year because he deserves it and tries his hardest to be the best father to me! I LOVE YOU DADDY!

D.J. McGahee, nominated by Hannah McGahee, 10, Harlem

Our daddy D.J. McGahee should be father of the year because he is talented, funny and smart. Two of our dad's talents are cooking and fishing. One of the funniest things is when we were little he would come up behind us and tickle us. And when we are having trouble with our math homework that's when he shows his smarts. That's why our dad should be father of the year.

David Coon, nominated by Taylor Coon, 6, Evans

My dad is in the Air Force. He does a really good job at all he does. But most of all he is the best dad. He's been coming home as early as he can to play with us! He's SUPER sweet to us and every one he meets. He brings my mommy flowers and takes us on bike rides. It's super duper ally ooper fun. He teaches Sunday school and I think that's awesome because he teaches me and the other kids about Jesus. My brother and I like it when he takes us to the library. We get Little House on the Prairie. He is the best and funniest guy in the whole wide world. He rocks my socks off like pop rocks!

Rance Scott, nominated by Carter Scott, 10, Evans

My dad is awesome. He can fix anything. He fixes and builds houses. He fixes skinned knees, bikes, fishing poles, broken toys and broken hearts. He always makes things fun.

When my mom got breast cancer this year, he couldn't fix that but he helped us make it through all the worst parts. He did everything my mom couldn't do.

I love my dad very much. He is the best dad ever! He helps people who need help. He is my father of the year!

Clay Wilkes, nominated by Taylor Elisabeth Wilkes, 8, Grovetown

My dad is wonderful and nice. I love my daddy. I always thought my daddy would become a good, good man! I want my daddy to win! I also want my dad to have the best Father's Day ever! My dad always tells me really good stories like Hansel and Gretel. He listens to me and watches movies with me. He is so fun! In the summer, we always do a summer book together and we go do activities together. We get to go to Chucky Cheese together also. We do arts and crafts. My favorite place to go is Arts A Way. My first time I did a masterpiece with my dad I made a mermaid and dad made a turtle. We had a blast! Me and him always do stuff really fun. Me and him go shop and do other fun stuff. My daddy has a really good job; he works at Bridgestone Firestone.

Alfred Collins, III, nominated by Gabriel Collins, 7, Grovetown

My dad is Columbia County's Best Dad because he's really nice and special! I love him because he helps me. He cares for me. And he hugs me so MUCH! I like to play Playstation with him and go fun places like the park. I love him more than 100 million other dads!

Ken McKinzie, nominated by Mattie McKinzie, 8, Evans

Hi, I'm Mattie. I am 8. I think my Daddy deserves to be father of the year (because) he has done so many things to help my family. For instance, he built an upstairs and made it our play room. It is now very fun and he plays with us in it. He also redesigned our back yard. We have a blast out there now. A lot of times my Daddy will take us fishing and tubing. If anyone deserves father of the year, it is my Daddy. And it would be an honor to him, I'm sure! I love my Daddy!

Lee Schiffhauer, nominated by Lee Ann Schiffhauer, 10, Evans

My dad is the coolest dad ever. He takes us camping, the beach, the lake, and different states. He takes care of us when we're in need of something. He makes new things for us like ponds, shelves, and some other things for the house and outside of it. He helps us with our homework when we don't know the answer to a question. He fixes things like our TV, computer, broken glass, and many other things. He makes the most beautiful stained glass I have ever seen. Bill Rogers, nominated by Marisa Rogers, 6, Martinez

I think my dad is the greatest dad! He helps me and our family while my mom has gone back to nursing school. He took time off from work to take care of my sissy and brother and me while she was in an out of town class and we had a great time. He takes me to the pool and chases me in the water and plays the water game "Movies" with me. He reads me stories and lets me read stories to him. He also helps me out by holding me if I had a scary dream.

Bernie Jones, nominated by Hana Jones, 6, Evans

I think my dad should be the father of the year because he works hard on the earth and takes care of the earth. My dad is so fun. He takes care of us, he works so hard to do that. Me and my dad go fishing together but he gets all the fish and he tells me not to give up and keep trying. He loves all four of his children so much and he does anything and everything to keep them happy and provide for them.

Stephen Crawford, nominated by Sophie Crawford, 6, Augusta

My Daddy is good because he takes me to the pool. My Daddy works for the hospital and he is a Knights of Columbus. Working at a hospital is important because it heals people and they don't get hurt. Daddy smells good. I like to crawl into Daddy's bed at night because I'm scared. I crawl into the middle between Mommy and Daddy and if I crawl on Mommy's side, she takes me to my bedroom, but Daddy doesn't. He lets me stay. It made me feel special when he took me to get photographed for a magazine. I love my Daddy!

Stephen Crawford, nominated by Abraham Crawford, 8, Augusta

How awesome my dad is: Every year my Dad builds over 30 birdhouses to sell. The money that he gets, he puts to Walk for Autism. He is a member of Knights of Columbus and works for University Hospital. Other Knights help him build birdhouses. This recent year he cut his tendons in his hand. He couldn't continue building birdhouses because of this. After about a month his hand got better. My dad is awesome!

Stephen Crawford, nominated by Jacob Crawford, 13, Augusta

My father has earned my love and respect because of what he has done for our family. He's always there to support me and I know I can always talk to him. He doesn't even get cross with me when I call him while he's working; he always answers my questions. He is a generous man and gives much of his time and money to church and charity. And I know he will continue supporting us with his whole heart.

I think my dad should be named Columbia County's Father of the Year. He's a great dad with a wonderful heart. He supports me in everything I need or want.
