Winfield flower show scheduled
A flower show, sponsored by the Home Demonstration Council of Columbia County, will be held at Winfield Community House on Tuesday, June 11, 1957.
Entries must be in by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday to be eligible.
A demonstration of conditioning and design will be presented. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
The theme of the flower arrangement will be "Make Mine Country Style." Classes will be held on how to construct various arrangements.
Episcopal priest coming to Harlem
The Rev. Joseph Lamar Peacock, curate of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Augusta, has accepted a call from the bishop of the diocese to become priest-in-charge of Trinity Church in Harlem and Missionary Priest to Thomson. Peacock will be the first resident priest to Columbia and McDuffie counties by the Episcopal Church.
Peacock graduated from the University of Georgia with an A.B. in English literature. He later received a degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria.
Methodist youth worker honored
Lee Whitaker has decided to give up her work as counselor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, an office she has held for nine years. A ceremony was held in her honor Sunday.
Becky Holliman, representing the young people, presented to Whitaker a leather-bound American Revised Version of the Bible at the ceremony on Sunday evening.
W.R. Tye, representing the Official Board, then expressed to Whitaker the board's sorrow in losing her as a member.
