Trevor Wright, of Evans, came in 10th in a field of 57 in the Buzzard Blast 5k Run on May 30 in Louisville, Ga.

Not bad considering that, at age 12, he was the youngest runner in the field.

Trevor, who said he's been running races since third grade, came in with the time of 22:38.

Though he's breaking in as a youngster among older athletes, Trevor has now topped out for a race near his grandparents' home.

A rising seventh-grader at Riverside Middle School, where he participates in track, Trevor ran in Thomasville, Ga., in the Rose City Run, with his cousins.

"It's a 1-mile run that's 12 and under," his mother, Melissa Wright, said. "This was his last year."

Trevor said he felt he ran a good race with the older racers at the Buzzard Blast .

"I did a little bad on the second (mile)," he said. "But I still did good."

Trevor plans to return to Riverside's track team this year. His mother said he'll be back for the Buzzard Blast next year, too.

"Definitely," she said.
