The group's second annual spring concert will serve as a fundraiser for the Augusta Regional Office of the Alzheimer's Association.

Though there is no admission charge, patrons are asked to give a donation at the concert, which will be held at West Acres Baptist Church, 555 Gibbs Road, Evans.

"It'll be a good way for people to show their support," said Rob Nordan, the orchestra's music director.

The 44-member orchestra will perform songs of hope and encouragement dedicated to those providing care for Alzheimer's patients.

"They include show tunes and popular pieces that basically we're dedicating to the caregivers or ones that take care of Alzheimer's victims," said Nordan, whose grandmother suffered from the disease.

Scheduled pieces include Amazing Grace , Bach's Jesu, pieces from Rodgers and Hammerstein and God Bless America as the finale.

The concert will feature former University of Maryland musical professor and orchestra director Dr. Emerson Head. He will conduct Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8, commonly known as Unfinished , and will perform Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Trumpet Concerto as a guest solo trumpeter.

"Many of the pieces that we will play will be pieces that people would recognize immediately," Nordan said.
