The Columbia County Foundation for Children is sponsoring a summer volunteer/community service program for high school students.
Volunteers will assist at the Children's Resource Center, 6347 Columbia Road, Appling, from June 1-Aug. 6.

Pastor honors
White Rock Baptist Church, 1870 White Rock Road, Lincolnton, will hold an appreciation service for its pastor, the Rev. Seymore Harrison Sr., at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. F.C. Henderson of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, of Thomson.

Candidates meet
David Poythress and Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker, both Democratic candidates for governor, will take part in a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center at the Columbia County Library in Evans.
Tickets cost $20 and include a barbecue dinner after the forum.

Blood drive
The inaugural Angel of Hope blood drive, in memory of Lakeside High School graduate Jessica Fulmer, who died in a car crash in 2008, will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sanctuary Church on Cox Road, Evans.
Each donor is asked to bring nonperishable food for Golden Harvest Food Bank.
