The Columbia County Foundation for Children is sponsoring a summer volunteer/community service program for high school students.

Volunteers will assist at the Children's Resource Center, 6347 Columbia Road, Appling, from June 1-Aug. 6.

Pastor honors

White Rock Baptist Church, 1870 White Rock Road, Lincolnton, will hold an appreciation service for its pastor, the Rev. Seymore Harrison Sr., at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. F.C. Henderson of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, of Thomson.

Hypertension

Dr. Havon Knight will present a program on controlling hypertension from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

Candidates meet

David Poythress and Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker, both Democratic candidates for governor, will take part in a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center at the Columbia County Library in Evans.

Tickets cost $20 and include a barbecue dinner after the forum.

Friday is the deadline for organic producers or those moving to organic farming to apply for a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Blood drive

The inaugural Angel of Hope blood drive, in memory of Lakeside High School graduate Jessica Fulmer, who died in a car crash in 2008, will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sanctuary Church on Cox Road, Evans.

Each donor is asked to bring nonperishable food for Golden Harvest Food Bank.
