Evans needs a win
Evans High School's Black Knights of Columbia County moved within one game of the Region 6-C baseball championship in Monticello, Ga., Monday afternoon by downing Monticello 6-1 in the opener of a three-gamer series to decide the title.
The second game will be played Wednesday afternoon at Jennings Stadium in Augusta at 3:30 p.m.
Held to only three hits, the Knights put them all together with two walks and a Monticello error in the sixth inning for five runs.
Boat rules revised
In an intensive campaign to reduce accidents and drownings on the Clarks Hill Reservoir, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has recently revised rules and regulations governing public use of the big lake and is currently "cracking down" on violators, said Col. R.C. Bahr, the district engineer from Savannah.
The reservoir manager has added additional boats and rangers to patrol the waters on the weekends when peak crowds flock to the popular recreation spot.
