Blues concert

The final installment of Columbia County's Blues, Barbecues and Brews series will feature Electric Voodoo at 7 p.m. Friday at the Columbia County Amphitheater behind the library in Evans, with barbecue by Goolsby's. Essay contest

Friday is the postmark deadline for Heartsong Animal Rescue's Be Kind to Animals Essay Contest in recognition of the American Humane Association's 95th annual Be Kind to Animals Week, Monday through May 9. The contest is open in two categories, ages 8-12 and ages13-17, for a 100-150-word essay. Entry forms and rules are available at The News-Times office, or at www.heartsonganimalrescue.com.

Bingo night

Evans Elementary School will hold Family Bingo Night from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday at the school.

Church sales

- The Grovetown Methodist Church spring barbecue and yard sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to benefit missions. Advance orders for barbecue pork or chicken plates, which cost $7, may be placed by calling (706) 863-6668.

Dessert theater

The fifth-graders of Brookwood Elementary School, 455 S. Old Belair Road, will present an Alice in Wonderland fantasy dessert theater at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets cost $2. For information, all (706) 855-7538.
