They also gave an architect authorization to design plans for the interior of the theater on Louisville Road.

Officials said it will be easier to obtain grants for the renovation work with design plans in hand.

In addition, city officials approved a $542,905 bid from Southtree Enterprises to construct a senior center at the Harlem City Park.

Also discussed were plans for a senior apartment complex. The project will include 15 efficiency apartments, a site manager's apartment and office, and a community building. The complex is slated for Planer Mill Road and is expected to be complete in July.

City officials agreed to cancel a contract to construct a new fire station on New Street.

They said the site did not meet mandatory soil compaction levels and a small amount of petroleum was found on the property.
