Cudos to Columbia County Library for an outstanding evening April 18 with Kathy Reichs, author of books about forensic anthropology and a producer of the Bones television show. Her entertaining and amusing presentation was performed before a standing-room-only crowd. She captivated the audience and later signed books for an hour for happy fans.

This kind of event certainly provides a sense of community in our home town. Credit is due to interim library manager Anita Patterson and her excellent staff.

Another grand event was provided by the library and the Augusta Metro Youth Foundation on March 20 with the Books Alive! Festival, which included Caldecott Award-winning author Donald Crews and a new Caldecott and Newbery Area in the Library. There was outdoor fun, new playground equipment and hot air balloon rides. Credit for much of the planning goes to children's librarian Pam Link and the Columbia County Community and Leisure Services Department.

All of us who attended the events were so pleased to see families out on a lovely spring day, just enjoying themselves and having fun.

Columbia County is indeed fortunate to have such a dedicated and professional library staff. Thank them the next time you visit the library!
