Friday's adoption times are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pets will be adopted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. All dogs and puppies are available for $10, and cats and kittens are available for $5.

These prices will be valid only during the special adoption event.

The usual fees are $20 for kittens and puppies and $25 for cats and dogs, said Pam Tucker, Columbia County's director of emergency operations.

"We hold the special adoptions quarterly to try to adopt out more pets and to get the public to visit our shelter more often," said Tucker, adding that anyone who adopts a pet during the week of April 13 will get a free pet identification tag.

People who plan to visit the shelter should note that Georgia's sanitation laws require those entering the kennel area to wear closed-toe shoes.
