All-state chorus
Two students from Evans Junior High School will be participating in the annual Junior High All-State Chorus in Atlanta. David Young and David Coley were selected after going through two auditions in January.
Clinic approved
Columbia County commissioners on March 21 voted to allow the Board of Health to set up a mobile home in the Martinez area for use as a health satellite clinic.
Phyllis Fox, public health nurse, presented the commissioners with figures indicating a need for a satellite clinic in Martinez. The $900 mobile home is being purchased with funds collected from Medicaid screenings.
Films presented
The Harlem High School Science Club presented a set of sound film strips to the school library March 18. Robert Neal, president of the Science Club, presented the set to librarian Caroline Lee and to school Principal Melvin Johnson.
The club raised the funds to purchase the films "and to help out the student body," Robert said.
First scholarship
Cathy Stewart, a senior at Evans High School, is the first girl in the history of the school to receive a college scholarship in sports.
Cathy signed this week with Georgia Southern and became a famous first at Evans. Planning to major in physical education with the intention of teaching and coaching in the future, Cathy said she looks forward to playing for Georgia Southern.
Cathy, who has been on the basketball varsity team all four years of high school, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stewart of Martinez.
