Lakeside Middle School will hold its Panther Idol talent show at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets cost $4.

Clothing sale

All winter clothing at the Children's Resource Center, 6347 Columbia Road, in Appling, is on sale for half price. All proceeds from the center benefit the Columbia County Foundation for Children. The Resource Center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month. For information, call (706) 541-2849.

Garden series

The Columbia County Extension Service Gardening at Lunch series continues at 12:10 p.m. today at the Columbia County Library with a session on gold-medal plants. Play in the park

April events at Reed Creek Park include a free program on insects from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday; a wildflower walk from 10-11 a.m. Saturday; preschool walks from 10-11 a.m. April 15 and 23; and an Earth Day celebration 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18. For information, go to www.reedcreekpark.com.

Farm workshop

Barbecue dinner

Martinez Masonic Lodge No. 710 and Order of the Eastern Star Martinez No. 464 will hold a barbecue pork dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the lodge at 3412 Washington Road, Martinez, with proceeds benefiting the lodge's scholarship program, Julie's House and other Masonic charities.
