The American people can overcome the obstacles thrown in their way because that is our history. Since President Obama has been in office, I have never seen this many obstacles thrown in people's way in such a short time. I have never seen the government seek to own and operate as much of the private sector as this administration is doing. Moreover, there is nobody to stop them.
The Constitution has been under assault by the left for years. Liberal judges have been rewriting law, claiming it is constitutional, and these people are not elected - they are appointed for life. We have been in the midst of an assault on the founding of the American way of life for decades, and most people live under the assumption this just is the way the country is.
The average American did not expect this kind of assault. ... Most Americans in these times are in nowhere near as dire circumstances as that of the cold, ragged, hungry men who gathered around George Washington in the winter at Valley Forge, to which they had been driven by defeat after defeat. Only an optimist would have expected them to survive.
We cannot whine because the stocks in our pension plans have gone down or the inflated value of our houses has now evaporated. However, what is ahead of us and our children and their children are dangers that can destroy American society.
One of the leading terrorist nations is moving steadily toward creating nuclear bombs. Will anyone care about one's paycheck when we see an American city in radioactive ruin?
We have a president who was purposely not vetted, whose associations tell us that none of us should be surprised at anything he says or does. Any attempt to be truthful about it is met with "Oh, come on, don't be paranoid."
I think one of the greatest fears that people have is how to stop it. We always stopped it at the ballot box. We don't have any political leadership on our side with any significant voice in Washington, so it is up to individuals to do the best we can. People want leaders. They are desperately crying for leadership. Obama has sown the seeds of a lot of truly dangerous things.
We have always had obstacles placed in front of us. They are not insurmountable. They are not as bad as what George Washington faced. But we must maintain some perspective because people who have been through tough times have emerged.
It is totally up to us. For the sake of our children and grandchildren, we cannot quit.
