Editor:The American people can overcome the obstacles thrown in their way because that is our history. Since President Obama has been in office, I have never seen this many obstacles thrown in people's way in such a short time. Girl Scout Troop 21044, of Evans, attended Storyland Theater's production of The Courtship of Senorita Florabella at the Imperial Theatre in January. The troop got a backstage tour before the show. Performing in the play and also shown are Barbara Feldman, the director of Storyland Theater, and Austin Rhodes, a Storyland Theater board member.

Kindergarten registration in Columbia County is scheduled for March 23 through April 3 from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Children should register at the elementary school in the designated school zones in which they reside.

Adult animals cost $25 to adopt and the adoption fee for puppies and kittens is $20. All adopted animals must be spayed or neutered. Visitors must wear closed-in shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Sports Newsmakers
The Haydens Senior Teal competition cheerleading squad participated in three major competitions in January. The cheerleaders were awarded first place and named Grand Champions at New Year's Jam in Columbia on Jan. 10; first place and Level 4 Grand Champions and Best Choreography at the World Spirit Championships in Duluth, Ga., on Jan. 11; and first place and Level 4 Grand Champions at the Cheersport Grand Championships in Atlanta on Jan. 25. The team also earned a paid bid to the All Levels International Championships in April as a result of their top finish at the World Spirit Championships.
