Evans Kroger shortens hours

There is now one less option for those who prefer to do their grocery shopping in Columbia County in the wee hours of the morning.

The Kroger at 4335 Washington Road in Evans changed its hours in February and is no longer open 24 hours. The store is now open from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m.

"Kroger has adjusted the store hours in some area locations so that we can continue to offer our customers with real value and service, when they need it the most, primarily through lower prices during these difficult economic times," Glynn Jenkins, the director of communications and public relations at Kroger's Atlanta Division, wrote in an e-mail.

The Kroger at 4115 Columbia Road in Martinez still is open 24 hours, according to its automated answering system.

Jenkins said no additional hour adjustments are expected in the area.
