Evans doesn't need more traffic from apartments, strip malls

I could not disagree more with Caroline Chamberlain in her argument for the developers being allowed to build apartments at Marshall Square (letter, Feb. 22, "It would be 'fiscally irresponsible' to reject Marshall Square plans").

She makes the claim that, basically, because of their investment, Marshall Square developers should be allowed to go forward and that it would bring income to Evans.

Has Chamberlain driven the main roads in Evans lately, especially during rush hours and Fridays? The last thing we need is the congestion that this multi-family development would bring.

In addition, I thought our sheriff laid to rest this issue about a year ago when he successfully stopped the building of another apartment/multi-family complex when he pointed out to the commissioners the crime it brings to the area. He cited crime statistics at other area apartment complexes.

I have a thought: Who cares if Marshall Square goes through? Don't we have enough empty strip malls in Evans already?

There is one being built out near Greenbrier and another at Furys Ferry/Evans-to-Locks as we speak. Let's do something crazy like replant the trees that they have leveled, plant some grass and turn it into green space. Please, no more ugly strip malls.
