Empty Bowl 2009, a Golden Harvest Food Bank fundraiser, will be held March 8 at the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans.

The awareness event will feature food, silent auctions, raffles and locally made ceramic bowls.
Students from throughout the Augusta area designed artwork incorporating the Empty Bowl theme and phrases "Got Soup?" and "Ending Hunger Together."
A North Augusta High School student recently was named this year's design contest winner. Pupils from more than 21 schools in Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties also are handcrafting ceramic bowls to be given to all who attend the Empty Bowl event.
"Empty Bowl unites art and activism in area school students in so many ways, we are humbled by the thought, work and effort our area students contribute to each year's event, because they care," said Shannon Powell, an Empty Bowl media committee member.
Proceeds from this year's event, which will run from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., benefit Golden Harvest Food Bank and the Augusta Jewish Community Center. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-10. Children under 2 are admitted free.
"No one's bowl should be empty," said Powell.
