Between the congressional bill for $750 billion in October 2008 and the ongoing rush to spend another $1.3 trillion (counting interest), the nation is apparently willing to spend or develop a plan to spend about $3 trillion on "stimulus/recovery" within less than a year.
Just key in "Dollar cost of War in Iraq, Afghanistan and global war on terror" on Google, and you will find a number of articles from such offices as the Congressional Research Service and the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank and a large number of private study groups and propagandists. You will find a similar figure for total cost of the entire spectrum of military, political and development activities by this country from Sept. 11, 2001 out to an estimated "conclusion" in 2017 - a 16 year period. There is even a book mentioned - The Three Trillion Dollar War.
To each his own. The Republicans spent many dollars on such things as Medicare Part D, ignoring Social Security and Medicare Part B problems, and financed the war on terror. That was in addition to initiating the current spree by asking for the first $750 billion attack on repairing the economy - damaged by primarily Democrat efforts to give home ownership to anyone who wanted a house of their own whether they could pay for it or not.
The Republicans, who until 2006 controlled the White House and Congress, weakly opposed the effort. President Bush hardly missed an opportunity to mention that his watch saw the greatest growth of home ownership in US History - he actually patted banks and Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac on the back.
Now the Dems are having at it! Is there any doubt why Barack Obama won the 2008 election? There is not one Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives left in all of New England. ... There are only eight (maybe nine) Republican senators out of 40 in the 20 states between Maine and Minnesota (and included in that arc are Virginia and North Carolina), and only one of those states (Indiana) was won by the GOP in 2008.
President Obama visited Indiana Feb. 9 to hawk his stimulus plan. Three of the eight GOP senators in this arc have tossed their lot to the stimulus giveaway. As a result, Northeastland - with its 20 states (and maybe statehood for D.C.), stands on the verge of complete cultural/ideological separation from the modern, fairly solid GOP 12-state grouping of the surviving old Confederacy and its environs from South Carolina to Texas, including West Virginia and Oklahoma.
Westcoastland - California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington - have already long since left the reservation.
Alaska is "up there" and has Sarah Palin. That leaves 12 states in the once solid Midwest group. ...
The former U.S. republic - now the Obamaland Federation - is under new management and is undergoing some serious reconstruction. I no longer regret that I am the age that I am!
