Augusta's Garden City Chorus is offering sweethearts a serenade on Valentine's Day.

Barbershop quartets will fan out across the area Friday and Saturday performing Singing Valentines for those who want to do something romantic for their sweethearts on the day dedicated to romance.

Members of the barbershop quartets will perform Singing Valentines for the 18th year.

"They say it is the greatest thing since sliced bread," said Leron Culbreath, the chorus's vice president of public relations and fundraising.

Culbreath said this will be his first year joining the Singing Valentines program, which is a fundraiser for the nonprofit chorus.

The quartets, which will be dressed in tuxedos, will greet guests at home, school, work or restaurants.

They will sing two love songs and deliver a long-stemmed red rose and card with the sender's message.

Culbreath said quartets start as early as 7 a.m. and will sing until 9 p.m.

Singing Valentines are available for Columbia, Richmond, Aiken and part of Edgefield counties.

Singing Valentine cost $65 and can be purchased online at www.gardencitychorus.org or by calling (803) 279-4198.

Culbreath said the quartets' schedules fill up fast, so orders should be placed as early as possible.
