Youth football

The Columbia County Area Youth Football Association (CAYFA) will hold registration for the upcoming spring youth football season for the 9-11 and 12-13 age classifications. Participants must be 13 years old or younger on Sept. 1. Registration will be held Feb. 14 at Blanchard Park off Belair Road from 9 a.m.-noon. Softball tourney

The Hit and Run B-Class 14-U Girls Fastpitch Tournament will be held Feb. 20-21 at Harlem High School. The first six teams entered will play. For information, call Donna McNair at (706) 951-9003 or visit www.eteamz.com/ladydogs.

Golf tournaments

River Ridge Elementary School will sponsor a two-person best ball golf tournament at Bartram Trail on March 7 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $100 for two-person teams, and includes a light lunch. Humana Military Healthcare Services will hold the 13th annual Fisher House Golf Tournament on March 20 at Gordon Lakes Golf Course. Participants must register by March 13 for the early fee of $65 per player or $260 per team. The late fee is $75 per player or $300 per team.

Baseball tryout

The Columbia County Chaos boys 10-and-under travel baseball team will be holding tryouts in March. Interested boys should be 10 or under as of May 1. Pitching is a plus. For information, call Trevor Adkins at (706) 284-7379.

Boating course

Thurmond Lake Sail and Power Squadron will offer its Basic Boating Course at the McCormick Public Library located at 201 Railroad Ave., McCormick, S.C. Classes are from 2-5 p.m. Feb. 24, Feb. 27, and March 3 and noon until 3 p.m. on March 6. Advance registration is required. Topics include handling, docking, anchoring, safety, state laws, navigation and more. Cost is $25 per person or $30 per couple. Call Dave Kloppenberg at (864) 391-3795 for details or reservations.

Coast Guard Auxiliary meets

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at El Valle Mexican Restaurant in the West Town shopping center in Martinez. For information, call John VanOsdol at (864) 391-2170.

Free throw contests

The Walk for Autism Free Throw Contest will be held March 28 at 10 a.m. at Evans Middle School. Cost is $8 per person. The person who makes the most consecutive free throws will win a Nintendo Wii. For information or to purchase tickets, call Mike Selitto at (706) 664-7244.

Lifeguard classes

The Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross will hold lifeguard training classes Feb. 9-20, Feb. 23-March 6 and March 23-April 3. For information, call (706) 724-8481.
