Steelers' victory in Super Bowl will be special

I will admit that as a football fan, I have been spoiled.

Since I became aware of who the Pittsburgh Steelers were, back in 1975, I have witnessed my team win five Super Bowls. Five world titles in 33 years is a mark most teams would kill to attain.

Only San Francisco's five Super Bowl wins equal Pittsburgh in that time frame. Dallas has five crowns too, but one of theirs came in 1972.

I cannot complain when it comes to how my team has fared during my lifetime. At the risk of sounding greedy, another Steelers championship would be extra special for me.

I have passed my love for the Steelers on to my son, John Chandler. Three years ago, my son and I were able to share a Steelers Super Bowl win, but he was only 17 months old at the time. So by the time the Steelers had the victory in hand, John Chandler, donning a Hines Ward outfit, was asleep.

He obviously doesn't remember our talks that day about the team and how important the game was. So, thankfully, the Steelers have battled their way into another shot at a world championship. This Sunday they take on Arizona for all the marbles.

This time around John Chandler is a little more in tune with "Steeler Hysteria." He even pulls for Ben "Rothenburger."

I was too young to remember the Steelers' first championship in 1975, but the following year I began cheering for the black and gold, and they did not disappoint. Pittsburgh knocked off Dallas 21-17 to win a second title.

I was only six weeks shy of my fifth birthday and I remember watching the game at my family's home on Belair Road. Now, 34 years later, my son is 4 and could get to celebrate a Steeler title just as I did so many years ago.

Who knows? By the time he is old enough to drive, he might pull for another team, but we will still have Feb. 1, 2009, to share.

Obviously, I prefer to share a championship for our team, but this could be a chance to teach my son how to lose with class. That means no busted walls or broken furniture if things do not go my way. I'll let him know that our team played as hard as they could, but on that particular day the other team was a little bit better.

Then, after he goes to sleep, I will break some stuff in the garage.
