The Harlem High School marching band is inviting music lovers and video gamers to tests their skills at a video game tournament featuring Rock Band , Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution .
//
The tournament starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Tournament Center of Augusta, 1824 Wylds Road, behind the Augusta Mall.
"This is going to be like a fun thing for anybody who wants to come," said Beth Lewis, Band Booster Club vice president.
The Tournament Center provides all needed equipment, Lewis said.
Space is limited, so Lewis highly recommends pre-registration. The tournament is open to middle-school aged children up to adults.
The cost is $15 per tournament or $40 to enter all three. All proceeds benefit the marching band.
"We're trying to raise money for new uniforms, as well as other band expenses," Lewis said, adding that the heavy, winter-weight uniforms are old, dingy and too hot for students to march in during hot summer months. "The company that made them doesn't exist anymore. So if we needed to replace a jacket, we couldn't because we don't have access to that style anymore. So, at this point, we have to start over."
The proceeds, which go toward the fall 2009 marching season, also will help pay for travel expenses and an annual band camp.
Winners of each tournament will receive a $100 cash prize. Other prizes include Domino's pizzas, Movie Gallery movie rentals and laser tag games at Adventure Crossing.
