Dropped Stitches, a group at Washington Commons that knits blankets for hospitals and soldiers, is seeking donations of yarn from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily at the retirement community on Washington Commons Drive off Washington Road across from Club Car. Writers meet

Alzheimer's lunch

A free MCG Alzheimer's lunch program with Dr. Suzanne Smith, director of the Memory Disorder Clinic at MCG, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the MCG Alumni Center at 919 15th St. For reservations, call (706) 731-9060 by noon Monday.

Fisher benefit

David Owen will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Inner Bean Coffee House on Davis Road in Martinez to benefit the Fort Gordon Fisher House for families of wounded service members. A fundraising silent auction also will be held. Admission is free, Call Claire Moore at (706) 589-0132.
