Generous contributors and volunteers made pet drive a success
On behalf of the Best Western Evans Hotel and CSRA Happy Tails Rescue, I'd like to thank all those who contributed to our "Kibble for Kritters" effort. We collected hundreds of pounds of dry and canned dog and cat food, old towels and blankets for bedding, pet toys and cleaning products for the shelter. CSRA Happy Tails Rescue Inc., is a non-profit licensed animal rescue group committed to the welfare of stray and unwanted dogs and cats in the CSRA. Hawaiian Pictures
Jessica Messer, a junior at Evans High School, along with about half of the Evans High band, was in Hawaii from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1. The band marched in the Waikiki Holiday Parade the day after Thanksgiving and was selected as the Honor Band. The band also performed a concert at the Pearl Harbor memorial site and toured the Dole Plantation, the Polynesian Cultural Center and the water park. They also hiked up the dormant volcano on Diamond Head.

Happy retirement to Ford and Mercer
The arrival of 2009 didn't just mean the end of 2008 in Columbia County. It also meant the end of an era.
