The Columbia County Choral Society will present sounds of the season during its holiday concert Friday at First Baptist Church of Evans.

The 7:30 p.m. concert, titled In the Bleak Midwinter, will feature some of the group's best work, said Artistic Director Isaac Holmes.

"The title of the concert is directly from the last piece that we will perform in the concert," said Holmes. "The work was set to the text of Christina G. Rossetti, 1830-1894. Gustave Holst composed an original work that was based on a hymn tune: Cranham, Irregular . However, in our performance, we will perform a version arranged by Albin C. Whitworth."

Holmes said he hopes the music will inspire and entertain.

"The words are very evocative and most appropriate for this moment in American history," he said. "The piece ends with this statement: 'What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man, I would do my part; what can I give Him, give Him my heart.'"

Tickets to the concert cost $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door.
