The good news for the Evans girls basketball team after its Nov. 25 game with Greenbrier was that the Wolfpack isn't on the region schedule anymore.

The Knights lost to the Wolfpack 65-37 to open their season.

Evans girls are trying to bounce back from a one-win 2007-08 campaign. They will open their Region 3-AAAA schedule Friday at Harlem. Greenbrier girls are playing their first season as part of Region 2-AAAAA.

The Knights' early schedule includes a lot of driving. Four of their first five games are on the road.

The stretch started badly after Evans was victimized by one of the Wolfpack's fast starts.

The Knights trailed 11-0 before scoring their first basket. They quickly cut the Wolfpack's lead to 11-6, but that was as close as coach Tim Whitfield's team came to knocking off its rivals.

Ayanna Fairbanks scored 11 points for the Wolfpack and Kaila Hunt added 10.

Knights forward Dee Dee Denaly led Evans with 7 points.

The Wolfpack's win was its second after opening the season by beating Lakeside. Greenbrier's two wins sandwiched a loss to Butler.

Coach Dana Bull's team plays at Lakeside on Saturday before starting region play Dec. 9 at Union Grove.
