Congressman should apologize for 'truly hateful' comments

I read with interest and shock the remarks in which U.S. Rep. Paul Broun referred to President-elect Obama's future actions by stating he will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

This comment was truly hateful and is demonstrative of the divisiveness that will only further divide our great country. A campaign suggestion was made by then-Sen. Obama that a civilian security force may be useful in construction efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure - an idea endorsed by the Bush administration.

Obama requires all of our support and non-partisanship during these days of so many complex issues facing our country. That spirit of cooperation in dealing with the multiple problems facing the U.S. must be demonstrated by the leaders at the local level - in my case, that would mean my congressman representing my district.

A full apology must be made to Obama and the slanderous remarks of an "Obama dictatorship" must be retracted.

In contrast to the divisiveness Broun is fostering, I was delighted to read that former Sen. Sam Nunn from Georgia will be serving on a transition team for Obama. This action perpetuates a cooperative spirit of change and casts the state of Georgia in a very favorable light.

One last thing: Adolf Hitler was a fascist who hated communism and Marxism, so a comparison to Hitler does not meet the "Marxism" title Broun attempted to assert on Obama.
